“...knowledgeable, quick to respond, and always a pleasure to work with. I always know that when we go to MB we are getting sound advice and they’ll fight for our best interests.”
I am a business and technology attorney with more than 20 years of legal experience in private practice and in-house roles. I serve as outside general counsel to technology, media, advertising and growth companies and work closely with executives, business teams and in-house legal departments on complex commercial agreements, strategic transactions and the day-to-day legal issues that come with operating and growing a business.
Before co-founding Murphy Bova, I practiced for nearly four years at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and later served as in-house counsel to a software company. Before becoming a lawyer, I spent more than seven years in sales and business development with digital businesses, including About.com and Shopping.com. That business background has had a significant impact on how I practice law. I understand that the objective is not simply to identify legal risk—it is to understand the business, focus on the issues that actually matter and find a practical way to get the deal done.
A significant part of my practice involves structuring, drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements, including services agreements, SaaS and cloud agreements, software and technology licenses, advertising and media agreements, data agreements, development agreements, strategic partnerships, distribution arrangements, and customer and vendor agreements. I also advise clients on mergers and acquisitions, financings, employment and executive matters, corporate governance and other strategic transactions.
As outside general counsel, I become part of my clients’ teams. I learn their businesses, understand their objectives and provide practical, responsive advice across the legal issues they face. I also work with established in-house legal departments that need experienced support on commercial transactions, strategic projects or simply additional capacity when things get busy.
My approach is straightforward: understand the business, protect the client where it matters and keep things moving.
